EV Charging in Armenia: Stations, Plugs and Trip Planning

EV charging in Armenia works well inside Yerevan and gets thin once you leave the capital. Crowd-sourced map data lists 373 charging stations in Yerevan, 36 of them DC fast chargers (PlugShare, 29 October 2026), while the long southern and mountain routes have few fast chargers today. For a first self-drive trip across the country, a petrol car is the simpler choice; an electric car suits city days and short loops.

Charging in Yerevan

The capital is where almost everything is. PlugShare lists 373 stations in Yerevan, 36 new in the last 90 days, including 36 DC fast chargers. The biggest networks are EVAN with 124 stations and EcoCars with 53, and chargers sit in shopping centres such as Yerevan Mall and Mega Mall, in underground car parks and near Republic Square. The data is crowd-sourced, so a listed station can be offline or full: check the latest user comments before you drive across town.

Fully electric vehicles have privileges in Yerevan’s paid parking under municipal resolution 45-N of 25 December 2023. Ask the operator or the Yerevan Parking Service (pcs.am) what applies to a foreign-registered or rented car before you rely on it.

Plugs and what fits your car

On PlugShare’s Yerevan list the main DC standards are CCS (28 plugs) and CHAdeMO (10), with AC J1772 plugs the most common (81). It shows no Tesla Superchargers. Armenia drives on the right, and most cars you meet are not EVs, so check the connector against your car before you rely on a station.

Outside Yerevan

This is where plans fail. The map lists stations in Kotayk (149), Lori (52) and Shirak (49), but those counts include slow AC points and say nothing about power. The Auto Gallery Recharge network announced in April 2026 about 90 fast stations of 160 kW for 2026, to double by 2027, in Yerevan, Dilijan, Gyumri, Aparan, Vanadzor, Sisian, Kapan, Armavir, Martuni and along the North-South Highway. The first station was scheduled for July 2026. We could not confirm how many are open, and Sevan and Goris were not on the list. The northern routes via Dilijan, Gyumri and Vanadzor are the most promising. The long southern run on the M2 (Goris is 237 km from Yerevan, with steep climbs) is the hardest to plan.

Planning a trip by EV

Three rules. First, add the climbs: Lake Sevan sits at 1,900 m, the Selim Pass at 2,410 m and Kari Lake at 3,200 m, and cold weather lowers range. Second, plan every charge in advance and keep one backup station per leg, because stations may be offline. Third, install the operators’ apps and PlugShare before you arrive. We could not verify which apps accept foreign cards or how pricing per kWh works, so ask the operator. The legs below are planning distances from our road guide.

Should you rent an electric car?

For Yerevan and a day to Garni, Geghard and Lake Sevan, an EV is practical if you can charge overnight. For Syunik, Tatev, the Selim Pass or any winter trip, take a petrol car: petrol costs about 600 to 630 AMD a litre and stations are everywhere. Email us at info@evncar.com to ask what is available for your dates.

Questions about EV charging in Armenia

How many charging stations are there in Armenia?

We found no official national count. PlugShare lists 373 stations in Yerevan, 36 of them DC fast, as of 29 October 2026, and the data is crowd-sourced.

Which plugs are used in Armenia?

CCS and CHAdeMO for fast charging, and J1772 for AC, according to PlugShare. There are no Tesla Superchargers on that list.

Can I drive an EV from Yerevan to Tatev?

It is hard to plan today. The southern M2 is long and steep and we could not confirm a fast charger on it. A petrol car is the safer choice.

Are there fast chargers outside Yerevan?

Some, and more are planned. Auto Gallery Recharge announced about 90 fast stations of 160 kW for 2026, with the first scheduled for July 2026. Check each station before you rely on it.

Do electric cars park free in Yerevan?

They have privileges under municipal resolution 45-N of 25 December 2023. Ask the Yerevan Parking Service what applies to your car.
