Travel to Armenia from Belgium: Flights and Car on Arrival
15 October 2026

The simplest way to travel to Armenia from Belgium is the Brussels Airlines nonstop from Brussels Airport to Yerevan. FlyOne Armenia lists Brussels as well, and Wizz Air adds Brussels South Charleroi on 1 February 2027. Most flights and connections land after dark, many of them between midnight and 05:00, so much of this page is about the other half of the question: what you do with a rental car when you arrive in the dark.

How to travel to Armenia from Belgium: three nonstops and a winter question
You will see Erevan on French-language sites, Jerevan on Dutch ones and Yerevan in English. The code is EVN either way. Brussels Airlines announced the route in 2016 for a 2017 start, and it has been seasonal or interrupted at times, so do not assume it behaves as it once did. Details below are as of October 2026; check the airline’s timetable before you book — winter schedules change.
| From | Airline | Days | Leaves | Usual landing in Yerevan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brussels | Brussels Airlines | Mon, Thu, Sat in October | About 17:20 to 18:40 | About midnight (our estimate) |
| Brussels, winter sample | Brussels Airlines | Saturday only in one timetable | 12:35 | About 20:10 (our estimate) |
| Brussels | FlyOne Armenia | Reported Wed and Sun | Not confirmed | Not confirmed |
| Charleroi | Wizz Air | Mon, Wed, Fri from 1 Feb 2027 | 17:45 on timetable sites | About 01:00 to 01:30 (our estimate) |
Flight-tracking records show Brussels Airlines on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday pattern through October. The October flight home leaves Yerevan after midnight. The winter picture is thinner: one timetable dated August 2026 shows only a Saturday pair for the last week of October, while the same page says three times a week elsewhere; that Saturday flight home leaves at 21:10. Treat winter frequency as unconfirmed, anywhere from one to three flights.
Charleroi is a different airport from Brussels Airport, so check which one you are booking. Zvartnots International Airport’s own news item lists Yerevan–Charleroi from 1 February 2027, three weekly; some Armenian press wrote only “Brussels”. FlyOne’s Brussels service began in April 2026; its winter timetable is not confirmed.
Connections: Austrian via Vienna (Tue, Thu, Fri, Sun, leaving 17:45 or 19:55), LOT via Warsaw (Thu, Sun) and Turkish via Istanbul (daily, leaving 15:15). The onward flights land around 03:50 to 05:10, 04:25 to 04:45 and 01:00. We found no passenger nonstop from Antwerp, Liège or Ostend.
Why Armenia from Belgium
A nonstop from a Belgian airport means no connection to miss with a rental car waiting. The country is compact: Garni is 31 km from Yerevan, Sevanavank 68 km, Khor Virap 43 km, so three day trips start from one bed. And a sedan covers more than 90 per cent of the tourist map on roads that are 96.7 per cent asphalted. Armenia allows a stay of up to 180 days in a year without a visa, where Schengen allows 90.
Passport, not the eID
Armenia is outside Schengen, and Belgians are used to crossing Europe on the identity card. Here, bring the passport. The Armenian foreign ministry lists Belgium among the visa-free nationalities for up to 180 days in one year and asks for a valid passport. We found no official confirmation that a Belgian identity card is accepted for entry, so do not count on one. Six months’ validity is common airline advice, not an Armenian rule. Our documents guide covers the rental side.
Your Belgian licence
Belgium is a party to the 1968 Vienna Convention, and the Belgian card is in Latin letters with categories and a photo, so it meets the Armenian government’s three-part test. At our counter a national licence in Latin script is accepted for stays up to one year, if you have held it for at least two years. Sixt Armenia’s own terms also list Belgium among the licences accepted without an international permit. We found no Belgian-government statement on the point, so if you want certainty, pack a permit; the international driving permit guide explains who needs one.
What Belgium’s ministry says: read it yourself
Belgium’s FPS Foreign Affairs publishes its Armenia advice on the diplomatie.belgium.be travel-advice portal. We have not been able to verify its current level, date or wording, so we say nothing about what it contains. Read it before you book, and ask your insurer whether advice levels affect your cover.
For comparison only: the Dutch foreign ministry colours the 5 km strip along the Azerbaijan border red and the rest of Armenia yellow (31 July 2026). Germany’s foreign office, the most road-specific, issued partial travel warnings (as of 20 September 2026) for the M11 east of Vardenis, the M16 north of Ijevan, the M2 between Yeraskh and Karki, areas north of Jermuk, everything east of Goris, the E117/M2 between Vorota and Karmrakar and the M17 south of Kapan.
On the road, the standard loops do not touch those strips: Sevan and Dilijan, Garni and Geghard, Khor Virap to Noravank, the Debed canyon, Gyumri, Aragats. The M2 at Yeraskh passes close to the closed Nakhchivan frontier and is transit-only, so drive through without stopping. South and east of Goris, and north of Jermuk, need real care. Day to day, the risk is traffic, not conflict; our driving in Armenia guide explains the rules and the cameras.
Landing around midnight
Pickup at Zvartnots is free on every evncar booking. Add your flight number: we track it, the handover moves with a delay and there is no waiting fee. Handover takes about ten minutes. For a landing after 21:00, though: pickup at Zvartnots is free; the rental terms list a separate out-of-hours fee for handovers before 08:00 or after 21:00, so email info@evncar.com with your flight number and we will confirm whether it applies to your arrival time.
You can instead collect at breakfast; the booking form also offers central Yerevan and a hotel, and the rental terms list no separate fee for them. A chauffeur transfer has no night surcharge and 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. On the way home, the October Brussels Airlines flight leaves after midnight, so your last evening is a drop-off after 21:00. Ask whether the out-of-hours fee applies to a late return as well as a pickup. Nothing is charged online, confirmation arrives by email within an hour, and cancellation is free until handover.
Bring passport, licence and booking confirmation. The deposit is shown on each car page, taken by credit card or in cash at handover and released within five working days of return if the car comes back as it left, without unpaid fines. With only a debit card, ask first and read deposits and excess. Every rate includes compulsory third-party cover, a collision waiver capped at the deposit, unlimited mileage, a second driver and roadside assistance; see car rental insurance in Armenia. Roam-like-at-home on a Belgian SIM does not cover Armenia, so buy a local SIM (Viva-MTS, about 2,500 AMD, roughly €6, for 4 GB over 30 days; passport needed). The Zvartnots arrivals guide covers the hall.
Your first 48 hours after a midnight landing
Sleep, and do not drive that first night: driving at night in Armenia explains why. Collect at 10:00 and head north on the M4: Sevanavank is 68 km, 60 to 75 minutes, and Dilijan 39 km beyond. Sleep in Dilijan, then do Haghartsin (13 km, 20 minutes) before the 97 km run back, 1 h 30 to 1 h 45. The full loop is Yerevan to Sevan and Dilijan; add Garni and Geghard on the way out of town if you have a spare morning.
If you fly from Charleroi in February or March, plan differently. Winter tyres are compulsory from 15 November to 31 March, the Kari Lake road is closed from late November to mid-May, and black ice is regularly reported in Gegharkunik, the province around Lake Sevan. Garni, Geghard and Khor Virap, with Ararat in snow behind it, are the safer winter outings. Read winter driving in Armenia and when to drive month by month, and for longer trips the self-drive itineraries.
Questions Belgian travellers ask
Is there a direct flight from Belgium to Armenia?
Yes. Brussels Airlines flies Brussels to Yerevan, FlyOne Armenia lists a Brussels service, and Wizz Air starts from Charleroi on 1 February 2027. Check the airline’s timetable before booking.
Does Brussels Airlines fly to Yerevan in winter?
Schedules are loaded into 2027, but winter frequency is unconfirmed; we have seen between one and three weekly flights quoted. Confirm with the airline.
Is the Wizz Air flight from Brussels or Charleroi?
Zvartnots International Airport lists Charleroi, three weekly from 1 February 2027. Some press reports say only “Brussels”, so check the airport name when you book.
Can I enter Armenia with a Belgian identity card?
Bring your passport. We found no official confirmation that the identity card is accepted for entry.
Do I need an international driving permit with a Belgian licence?
Not at our counter. A Latin-script national licence is accepted for stays up to one year, held for two years. Some rental desks and police officers may still ask, so a permit is cheap insurance.
My flight home leaves after midnight. When does the car go back?
Ask when you book. Collection at Zvartnots is included, but the terms list a separate out-of-hours fee for handovers before 08:00 or after 21:00, so email info@evncar.com to check whether it applies to a late return.
Landing in the small hours?
Free airport pickup, nothing charged online, free cancellation until handover. Send us the flight number and we plan around it. Questions about pricing, extras or your arrival time? Write to info@evncar.com.
